How are the butterflies raised?
Our butterflies are raised ethically and sustainably on a dedicated farm in the UAE.
From the moment they hatch as caterpillars, they are hand-fed organic leaves and
cared for with the utmost attention and compassion. Their complete transformation
into butterflies takes between 4 to 6 weeks, and every stage is nurtured with care.
How long do the butterflies live?
Lifespan varies depending on the species, environmental conditions, and care. In our
carefully maintained environment, butterflies typically live up to two weeks, while
those in the wild may live only 4 to 6 days. Gentle handling and a suitable environment
can help extend their vitality.
Are butterflies safe?
Absolutely. Butterflies are delicate, harmless creatures that do not bite, sting, or
transmit diseases. You may hold them gently to capture a beautiful memory—just be
sure to tag us at @farasha.ae_official with your favorite moment.
Is there any environmental benefit to releasing butterflies?
Yes. Butterflies play a vital role as pollinators, particularly for wildflowers, and help
support biodiversity in our ecosystems. Much like bees—but without the sting—they
contribute quietly yet significantly to the health of our planet.
What if my butterflies are not moving?
Butterflies are sensitive to temperature and light. If they appear still, they may be resting
or warming up. Place the box near a well-lit window in indirect sunlight—avoid direct
heat, as it can cause distress. It's natural for butterflies to be less active during cooler
times or in the evening.
How can I ensure a successful release?
Release your butterflies on a sunny day between 7 AM and 5 PM, ideally in a garden or
open area rich with blooming flowers. Before release, allow the box to rest in indirect
sunlight for about 15 minutes so the butterflies can warm up. If they don’t take flight
immediately, let them gently walk onto your finger and place them on a nearby flower.
Avoid releasing them at dusk, as butterflies need time to feed and settle before nightfall.
How long should I keep the butterflies in the box?
Please refer to the detailed care instructions included with your specific product, as
guidance may vary depending on the type of experience or arrangement purchased.
What does Farasha mean?
Farasha (فراشة) is the Arabic word for butterfly. It symbolizes beauty, transformation, and freedom—values that are at the heart of everything we create.
What do butterflies feed on?
Butterflies drink nectar from flowers and enjoy sweet, natural liquids. On our farm, they are offered organic fruit nectar and juice to ensure they remain vibrant and healthy. In your garden, flowering plants provide the perfect natural buffet.
How many butterfly species are there in the UAE?
Over 50 butterfly species call the UAE home. At Farasha, we work with species that are native or locally adapted, supporting the surrounding ecosystem while thriving in our
climate.
How can I keep butterflies around my garden longer?
Planting a variety of nectar-rich flowers—such as lantana, zinnias, and marigolds—can
help attract and retain butterflies. Include sunny resting spots and a shallow water
source to create a welcoming habitat. With a little care, your garden can become a
sanctuary they’ll return to again and again.
